TU Philosophy...We believe that trout and salmon fishing isn't just fishing for trout and salmon. It's fishing for sport rather than food, where the true enjoyment of the sport lies in the challenge, the lore, the battle of wits, not necessarily the full creel. It's the feeling of satisfaction that comes limiting your kill instead of killing your limit. It's communing with nature where the chief reward is a refreshed body and a contented soul, where a license is a permit to use not abuse, to enjoy not destroy our cold water fishery. It's subscribing to the proposition that what's good for trout and salmon is good for the fisherman and that managing trout and salmon for themselves rather than the fisherman is fundamental to the solution of our trout and salmon problems. It's appreciating our fishery resource, respecting fellow anglers and giving serious thought to tomorrow.
Meet Herman Abrams, Master of the Fly Rod
Here is Herman Abrams at one of the Casting Clinics. Herman, a retired chief engineer, is a 20 year member and past president of the Long Island Flyrodders, a vice president of the worldwide Fly Fishing Association, a member of Trout Unlimited, and a licensed New York State Guide for fishing. Herman is also a master of the fly rod in salt water, and a lifetime member of the "Salty" Flyrodders. Truly a remarkable individual, Herman is a member of the greatest generation who served in Europe with the Army's 45th Division 171st Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Should you attend one of our Chapter's monthly meetings, introduce yourself to Herman, spend a few minutes talking to him, he is truly a great individual.

Casting Clinics
If you ever wanted to give fly fishing a try, but didn’t know quite how to get started, the Long Island Chapter of Trout Unlimited
will provide you that opportunity when it conducts Fly-Casting Clinics in October and in March. All clinics usually run from
9:00AM until 12:00Noon, and includes in-class discussions of terminal tackle as it relates to fly-casting, an outdoor fly casting
demonstration, and hands-on instruction. Equipment will be provided (on a share basis) for the outdoors practice sessions. If
you already have a fly rod and reel, there will be people to help set up your equipment between 8:30AM and 9:00AM.
Participants
will also have an opportunity to win a quality piece of fly fishing tackle (T.B.A.), compliments of our Chapter, and will be invited
to attend our Open House Meeting in March at the Hicksville VFW Hall, 320 South Broadway, Hicksville, NY.
Our Chapter
charges no fee to the participants for these clinics, however the Parks do charge the nominal car entrance fee.
